Growing Your Email List

Starting from Square One

If you just started your business, or if you just launched your website, you probably don’t have an email list to send to. So what do you do?

Ways To Grow Your Opt-In List:

    1. Place your email newsletter signup form on your home page (562 Graphix offers a signup form that will be placed on your website).
    2. Link to your signup form from every page of your website (you might add a link to your footer, or side navigation).
    3. Place a link to your email signup form in your email signature (ask everyone in your company to do it too)
    4. Add the link to your signup form in all the invoices your company sends
    5. Offer free giveaways to one lucky subscriber (it can be a company t-shirt, or something kooky, like a 20 pound box of banana candy).
    6. Post free whitepapers or helpful articles on your site. They’ll get downloaded like crazy, if you just offer them for free, and with no registration. Inside your whitepaper, place your own “full page ad” to your newsletter.
    7. Send out personal, one-to-one emails to all your clients, and ask them to please signup to your newsletter.
    8. In your “Contact Us” form on your website, add a checkbox to “signup for our newsletter”
    9. Add an “opt-in for our newsletter” checkbox in your e-commerce checkout page.

10 Rules for Choosing the Right Domain Name

      1. Brainstorm 5 Top Keywords
When you first begin your domain name search, it helps to have 5 terms or phrases in mind that best describe the domain you’re seeking. Once you have this list, you can start to pair them or add prefixes & suffixes to create good domain ideas. For example, if you’re launching a mortgage related domain, you might start with words like “mortage, finance, home equity, interest rate, house payment” then play around until you can find a good match.
      2. Make the Domain Unique
Having your website confused with a popular site already owned by someone else is a recipe for disaster. Never choose domains that are simply the plural, hyphenated or misspelled version of an already established domain.
      3. Make it Easy to Type
If a domain name requires considerable attention to type correctly, due to spelling, length or the use of un-memorable words or sounds, you’ve lost a good portion of your branding and marketing value. I’ve even heard usability folks toute the value of having the letters include easy-to-type letters (such as avoiding “q,” “z,” “x,” “c,” and “p”). Read more »

      How to Increase Website Traffic

Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it. Ways in which to ensure that your content is of higher quality than competitors or is unique include:

      • Creating content that is helpful and useful. Simply stealing information from another website will not generate traffic. You need to offer visitors the information they need to achieve a goal, solve a problem, be entertained, find out quality news or have a good laugh in a quick and efficient manner.
      • Keep it fresh. For repeat visits, it is crucial to provide regular updates to the website, especially in frequently viewed zones. Add fresh content every few days if possible; at a minimum, weekly.
      • Creating free local listings with online directories such as google, yahoo & msn. Also try your online yellow pages like www.yellowpages.com
